Pulses Consumption in India
India accommodate a large group of ill-fed people suffering from micronutrient, calorie and protein deficiency. Micronutrient deficiencies as well as protein-energy malnutrition can be addressed by boosting the intake of pulses which are the rich source of minerals, iron, proteins, and fibre. Pulses are noted as the leguminous crops, constituting an indispensable part of Indian diet as nearly 43% of all Indians are vegetarian and thus pulses stay as the most essential protein source. India is largest pulse consumer as well as producer. Our country accounts for 25% of world-wide pulses production.
